 Blast from the past...
« Thread Started on Dec 8, 2008, 5:58pm »

Some interest has been expressed by one of the EVO members regarding mixes of mine that were recorded some time back. So, here's what I've got. These links expire in 90-days. If you find an expired link, PM me and I'll upload it.

This is a NuSkool breaks mix. It's been described as "Ambient/NuSkool"... whatever! There's a couple of dodgy transitions. My favourite track in this entire set is "Apollo Vibes (Young American Primitive's Spacecraft Communicator)". It kicks in around the 1:08:20 mark. The haunting female vocals send shivers up 'n down my spine. It's a wee bit over 2-hours

This is a set that a mate of mine and I worked on for several months before he went active duty in the Navy and shipped-out for Spain. Cale and I tagged-off every 3-4 records. It's gone thru several iterations before we finally settled on this set. "How did it get it's name?", you ask. We were searching thru a box of about 40-50 records that I'd ordered on the Kaleidoscope and Puffin labels and couldn't find the one record we were looking for. Hence, the name. This is Funky Breaks, aka "South Florida" breaks, at it's very best! The best DnB may come out of the UK, best Breaks comes from So. Florida! In Oct 2006 I had the privilege of mixing this set at a venue in Huntsville, AL and the B-Boys were eatin' this shit up! By far the best time I'd ever had mixing out "live"! It was also my "edition set" for EVO. It has a lot of sentimental meaning to me.

This is a set I cobbled-up after coming off a 2-week period of depression from being out work in April 2006. The name of this set is very appropriate, trust me! It's essentially a remix of a previous work by DJ Cale Alexander. My favourite track in the set is "Music is the Drug", which kicks in around the 11:45 mark.

This is mash-up of some old vinyl I found in a record store in St. Louis. I was doing some contract programming work up there a few years ago. On the weekends I'd scout the record stores for old stuff that was no longer being pressed. It's Progressive House and has real jewels in it, not to mention a dodgy transition or two :( It's about an 98-min. set. BTW, St. Louis was my first time spinning out "live". It was at a club named the "Drunken Fish", the West End location. St. Louis is "House" town, but the Breaks mix I threw down went over very well. Kudos go out to the local Guitar Center store that let me use their decks for practicing.

Feedback is always appreciated! More to come...

For those of you that have a hotmail or msn account, M$ has increased the drive space on SkyDrive to 25GB for the account. I have both a hotmail and an msn account, so that gives me 50GB of drive space. The files that you put on SkyDrive can be made public or private. Food for thought...

Here's a DnB mix I've been working on for the last few days. It's a shade under 78-minutes. Feedback is welcome. Although I've been twiddling around with Traktor, I had to do this mix in MixMeister :( DnB gives Traktor fits when it tries to calculate the BPM of a track, consequently the tracks get out of sync. Sorry 'bout the 45-sec wait on RapidShare :P BTW, this mix is comprised of tracks that I downloaded from the 1Xtra website.

Download here

Here's the track listing:

  • Kosine - Cool & Relax
  • Adam Prescott - No One
  • Panda - Bagdhad
  • Vendubz - Justify
  • Solar Eclipse - So High
  • Psylence - Pulse Rate
  • Society - Lagoon
  • Genetics - Feel It
  • Innocent Sound - About You
  • DeepCutt
  • Bangerang Dubz - Shineye Sounds
  • Nuphlo - Bedouin Tales
  • Dfuze - Glide
  • Rivers - Italized

Regarding my earlier post about the 25GB on SkyDrive... it's true, however M$ has placed a limit of 50MB per file, which sux out loud!
